Welcome back to Slurp & Stream! As a reviewer dedicated to protecting both your wallet and your taste buds by testing every new convenience store arrival, I’m back with a 100% honest, unsponsored review.
Today, we are looking at the CU Convenience Store “Dakgangjeong (Sweet & Crispy Fried Chicken) Party Pack.” Spoiler alert: I was completely fooled by its appearance. Let’s get straight to the point—today’s review is going to be brutally honest! 🔥
The price is 7,900 KRW (roughly $6.00 USD). When I first popped the lid off, I was genuinely impressed. It features a half-and-half combo of creamy fried chicken and spicy-sweet dakgangjeong, alongside french fries, sweet corn, and traditional chicken-mu (Korean sweet and sour pickled radish).
The presentation was colorful, and the portion size looked massive. I immediately thought, “Wow, this is an incredible value.” Well, that thought lasted exactly until I took my first bite.
I microwaved it exactly according to the instructions on the packaging. But after one bite, I just had to laugh in disbelief. Both the meat and the breading had that soggy, rock-hard texture of cold leftovers you are forcing yourself to eat.
The sauces, while looking great, lacked any real harmony or depth. No exaggeration—it tasted exactly like “leftover fried chicken that sat in the fridge for 3 to 4 days, carelessly reheated in the microwave.”
If the chicken is a letdown, the french fries should at least be decent, right? Unfortunately, the fries shared the exact same soggy, dry fate. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was just eating a giant platter of stale leftovers.
The saddest part of this whole experience? Out of this massive, colorful party pack, the chicken-mu (pickled radish) was the only genuinely enjoyable thing to eat.
Usually, a large portion size is a huge plus for budget meals. But in this case, because the food tasted so bad, the massive portion actually made eating it feel like torture.
Who do I recommend this to?
