Welcome back! Today we are diving into the sweet side of the Korean convenience store with GS25’s “Hyeja Soboro Peanut Cream Bread.” For a little cultural context, “Hyeja” is a popular Korean slang term used to describe something that is incredibly generous in portion and an absolute steal for the price!
Priced at an unbelievable 1,500 KRW (roughly $1.10 USD), I had to see if this massive treat actually lives up to its generous name. Here is my 100% honest review!
The moment you tear open the packaging, a sweet, nutty aroma of peanut cream and baked streusel hits your nose. It is surprisingly large and heavy in the hand—definitely giving off that “Hyeja” (generous) vibe. The thick layer of crumbly soboro (Korean streusel) topping makes it look incredibly appetizing before you even take a bite.
Let’s cut to the chase and talk about the flavor and mouthfeel.
The Crunchy Soboro: The signature streusel-like topping maintains a fantastic crunch, making every bite fun and textured. Packed with Peanut Cream: I was worried they might skimp on the filling at this price point, but one bite proves otherwise. The rich, savory-sweet peanut cream instantly fills your mouth. There’s enough cream to comfortably last through the very last bite! The Bread: It balances a soft texture with that classic, slightly dense crumb typical of soboro bread. It pairs perfectly with the heaviness of the peanut cream without feeling too airy.
The flavor is exactly what you would expect—a classic, traditional peanut cream bread. But sometimes, the classics hit the hardest, and the combination of the crumbly topping and creamy filling here is flawless.
While I ate it straight out of the package to taste its original form, I highly recommend pairing this with warm milk or an iced Americano. Because soboro bread can be slightly dense, the drink will perfectly soften the bread and balance the sweet peanut cream!
If you are stopping by a GS25 on your way home today, definitely grab one of these.
