Welcome back to Slurp & Stream! Today, I’m putting a “premium” label to the test. In Korea, Shilla Bakery (Shilla Myung-gua) is a prestigious name in the baking world. So, when I saw their Ham & Egg Sandwich at GS25, I didn’t hesitate—even with a steeper price tag of 3,900 KRW (approx. $2.85 USD).
Is it a gourmet experience in a plastic wedge, or just a fancy name? Here is my 100% unfiltered review.
For a C-store sandwich, $2.85 is on the higher end. However, the branding looks sophisticated, and the bread (coming from Shilla) was supposed to be the star of the show. I went in expecting artisanal quality.
Let’s look at the construction. One of the oldest tricks in the convenience store book is the “front-loading” phenomenon—where all the ingredients are pushed to the front to look full, while the back is just empty bread.
Sadly, this sandwich fell right into that trap. While the slices of bread are quite large, the filling disappeared halfway through, leaving me with just plain crusts for the last few bites.
The most baffling part of this sandwich is the flavor separation. Instead of a harmonious “Ham & Egg” experience, the sandwich is split into two distinct sections:
The Verdict? They just don’t mix. Usually, you want that “salty-sweet” harmony in every bite, but here, it feels like eating two completely different (and somewhat lonely) sandwiches. The bread, which I expected to be pillowy and fresh, felt a bit dry and average.

If you remember my review of the CU Get Morning Ham & Egg Muffin, I’d choose that one over this in a heartbeat. The Shilla sandwich felt like all bark and no bite.
I think I expected too much from the “Shilla Bakery” name. For 3,900 KRW, I wanted a premium brunch, but I ended up with a slightly disappointing snack.
