Welcome back to Slurp & Stream! If you’ve ever browsed a Korean pantry, you’ve definitely seen cans of Spicy Tuna. It’s a staple for quick meals. Today, I’m trying the CU Big Sun-Dried Chili Paste (Taeyangcho) Tuna Samgak Kimbap.
At 1,800 KRW (approx. $1.35 USD), this “Big” version promises a hearty serving of Korea’s famous sun-dried chili flavor. Let’s see if this tuna stands out in a sea of triangle kimbaps!
One thing I love about this kimbap is that the rice isn’t plain white. Every single grain is pre-mixed with Taeyangcho Gochujang (premium sun-dried chili paste). It looks vibrant, spicy, and very appetizing from the moment you unwrap it.
Nutrition facts of the Sun-Dried Chili Paste Tuna Samgak Kimbap
When you think “Tuna Kimbap,” you usually expect a huge clump of tuna. However, this one is a bit different.
The Balance: The tuna filling is “adequate” rather than “overflowing.” Because the rice itself is so flavorful and well-seasoned, the tuna actually plays a supporting role. It adds a nice savory creaminess, but the Gochujang rice is the undisputed boss here.
The Mixing: I appreciate that the seasoning is consistent. There are no “bland spots”—you get that spicy kick from the first bite to the last.

Don’t be intimidated by the “Sun-Dried Chili” name!
Heat Level: It’s a comfortable, pleasant heat. It won’t set your mouth on fire, but it provides a nice warmth that even spice-novices can handle.
The Profile: While the Jeonju Bibim kimbap focuses on a mix of vegetables and complex flavors, this one is focused on the pure, salty-savory punch of Gochujang. It tastes like the ultimate “I don’t have any side dishes, so I’ll just mix rice with chili paste” comfort meal.

It’s a very reliable snack, but it hasn’t quite reached the “Holy Grail” status of our 7-point or 9-point champions.
Score: 6 / 10
Re-purchase intent: Yes, when I want something simple and spicy without too many “distractions.”
Slurp & Stream Pro Tip: Since this kimbap is quite savory and salty, pair it with a mild, non-spicy cup of noodles. Dipping this into a mild broth helps mellow out the Gochujang intensity and creates a perfect flavor balance!
