Welcome back to Slurp & Stream! Today, we’re trying something a little different from the usual stuffed kimbap. In Korea, there’s a famous regional style called Chungmu Kimbap—mini rice rolls served with spicy side dishes on the side.
I picked up the CU Get Morning Mini Chungmu Kimbap for 3,600 KRW (approx. $2.65 USD). Is it possible to capture the soul of a coastal classic in a convenience store box? Let’s find out!
True to the “Mini” (Kkoma) name, the box is filled with adorable, bite-sized rice rolls. While the portion of side dishes isn’t massive, the overall presentation feels very reasonable for the price point. It looks like a clean, well-balanced meal.
Usually, we want our seaweed (Gim) to be crispy. But in the world of Chungmu Kimbap, things are a little different.
The Texture: Because it’s a pre-packaged chilled item, the seaweed is soft and a bit damp. Surprisingly, this actually works! It blends perfectly with the rice, creating a chewy, cohesive texture that feels very traditional. The rice is lightly seasoned and hits the spot.
The Side Dishes: This is the heart of the dish. The spicy seasoned squid and radish (Ojing-eo Mu-mal-raeng-i) have a fantastic balance of sweet and spicy heat. They provide the “punch” that the plain rice rolls need.

I was genuinely impressed by how refreshing this felt compared to the saltier triangle kimbaps.
Score: 7 / 10 (Joining our top-tier leaderboard!)
Comparison: While our 7-point Triangle Kimbaps win on intense, umami flavors, this set wins on the “experience.” It’s fun to pick a roll and pair it with a piece of spicy squid. It felt more satisfying than the Get Morning Ham & Egg Muffin (6/10).

Don’t let the soft seaweed fool you—it’s supposed to be that way! With perfectly seasoned sides and a great price, this is a 7/10 win for CU’s Get Morning line.
