Welcome back to Slurp & Stream. Usually, I love a good underdog story, but today… we have to talk about a “Big” betrayal. I was craving something crunchy and spicy, so I picked up the CU Big Spicy Pork Cutlet (Donkasu) Samgak Kimbap.
At 1,800 KRW (approx. $1.35 USD), the promise of a “Big” spicy pork cutlet sounded like a dream. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bit of a nightmare. Let’s break down why.
The “Big” label isn’t lying about the overall size—it’s definitely a hefty triangle of rice. But as the saying goes, it’s what’s on the inside that counts. And inside? Well, it was a ghost town.
This is where the frustration began. When you hear “Pork Cutlet,” you expect a thick, breaded, and hopefully somewhat crispy patty.
What about the “Spicy” part?
While eating, I barely tasted any heat at all. It was only after I finished the whole thing that a faint, lingering spiciness showed up in the back of my throat. But it wasn’t a “flavorful” spice—it just felt like a lack of sauce and a late-arriving burn. The plain white rice was incredibly bland, making the whole experience feel like a chore.
Compared to our current champions, the Soy Sauce Braised Beef (7/10) or the Bulgogi version (7/10), this shouldn’t even be on the same shelf.
No crunch, no topping, just a mountain of bland rice. This is the definition of a “Big” disappointment. Stick to the Bulgogi version and save yourself the grief!
