Welcome back to Slurp & Stream! Today, we’re looking at a true Korean classic in a triangle shape. If you ask any Korean about their favorite childhood side dish, Jangjorim (beef braised in salty-sweet soy sauce) is always at the top of the list.
I found the CU Soy Sauce Braised Beef & Egg Samgak Kimbap for just 1,400 KRW (approx. $1.00 USD). In a world of rising prices, this is a beautiful sight for our wallets! Let’s see if it tastes like home.
You really can’t beat a one-dollar meal. It’s the perfect “grab-and-go” size for a busy morning or a quick midnight snack. The packaging promises a “home-cooked style” flavor, which is a bold claim for a convenience store item!
From the first bite, you can see the main stars: the braised beef and the scrambled egg.
Unlike some triangle kimbaps that have plain white rice, the rice here is pre-mixed with the savory soy sauce base. This means every single grain of rice is flavorful, even the corners!
Compared to the CU Ham & Egg Muffin (which I gave a 6/10), this kimbap feels much more “Korean.” While the muffin is more filling, this kimbap wins on that deep, addictive umami flavor.
This kimbap is a solid performer. It’s tasty on its own, but it has a secret superpower.
The seasoned rice is the real MVP here. Even if the egg portion is a bit small, when you pair this with ramen, it’s easily a 10/10 experience for under 3 dollars total.
