Honest Review- CU Big Jeonju Bibim Bulgogi – A Step Up from the Patty Version?

Welcome back to Slurp & Stream! If you read my last post, you know I had some mixed feelings about the Tteokgalbi (patty) version of the Big Samgak Kimbap. Well, today I’m testing its cousin: the CU Big Jeonju Bibim Bulgogi Samgak Kimbap.

At 1,800 KRW (approx. $1.35 USD), it promises the same “Big” satisfaction but with classic Korean Bulgogi beef. Is this the flavor harmony we’ve been waiting for? Let’s dig in!

✨ First Impressions: Bold and Beautiful

Just like the other “Big” versions, this one is heavy and satisfyingly large. The rice is pre-mixed with that signature red Gochujang (chili paste) seasoning, giving it a vibrant, appetizing look that screams “Authentic Korea.”

🥩 The Filling: Real Beef Texture

The biggest question was: “Is it a patty or real meat?”

  • Bulgogi Quality: Finally! Unlike the processed patty texture of the Tteokgalbi version, you can actually see and feel the texture of the beef here. It’s thin, tender, and distinctly Bulgogi. While the portion isn’t “steakhouse” huge, it’s very fair for the price.
  • Flavor Harmony: This is where it wins. The spicy-tangy Jeonju Bibim rice and the sweet-savory Bulgogi sauce are a match made in heaven. They blend together naturally, creating that classic “K-BBQ in a bite” experience.

👅 Taste & Saltiness: A Little Punchy

One thing to note is that this is a “bold” snack. The seasoning is quite strong, and if you eat it alone, you might find it a bit salty. It’s definitely designed to be part of a larger flavor combo!

  • Score: 7 / 10 (We have a new co-leader on the leaderboard!)
  • Portion: Since it’s the “Big” size, it’s a very solid snack, but for a full lunch, you’ll want to pair it with something else.

💡 Final Verdict: The Better “Big” Option

If you are standing in front of the CU cooler and have to choose between the Tteokgalbi and the Bulgogi, go with the Bulgogi. The texture is better, and the flavors actually talk to each other.

Slurp & Stream Pro Tip: Because the flavor is quite strong (salty/spicy), this is the perfect partner for a milder cup of noodles or even a simple bowl of egg drop soup. It’s a 7/10 on its own, but a 10/10 as a side dish!

🏁 Summary

Better texture, better harmony, and still just $1.35. This is the “Big” kimbap that actually delivers on its promise.
