Welcome back to Slurp & Stream! Today, we’re sizing up a heavyweight. If you’re extra hungry, the standard triangle kimbap can feel a bit small. That’s where the “Big” series comes in.
I picked up the CU Tteokgalbi Jeonju Bibim Big Samgak Kimbap for 1,800 KRW (approx. $1.35 USD). It combines Jeonju Bibimbap (Korea’s famous mixed rice) with Tteokgalbi (sweet and savory grilled beef patties). Let’s see if the flavor is as big as the size!
True to its name, this kimbap is about 20-30% larger than your average triangle. It feels solid and heavy in your hand—definitely enough to satisfy those mid-day hunger pangs.
The main attraction here is the Tteokgalbi paired with red, spicy Jeonju Bibim rice.
Compared to my previous review of the Soy Sauce Braised Beef (Jangjorim) Kimbap (7/10), this one falls a little short on harmony.
The Jeonju Bibim rice is a classic for a reason—it’s delicious. But the Tteokgalbi patty doesn’t quite reach its full potential here.
Slurp & Stream Pro Tip: Since the flavor combo is a bit “busy,” pair this with a simple, spicy cup of ramen (like Shin Ramyun). The hot broth helps blend the sweet patty and spicy rice into one cohesive, satisfying meal!
The size is big, but the “wow factor” is a bit small. Great for a quick stomach-filler, but for true flavor harmony, the Jangjorim Kimbap still holds the crown!
