Honest Review: CU 'Get Morning' Ham & Egg Muffin – Is It Really a McMuffin Clone?

Welcome back to Slurp & Stream! We’ve all been there: you’re craving a classic McDonald’s breakfast, but it’s past 10:30 AM, or the nearest Golden Arches is just too far. Enter the CU “Get Morning” Ham & Egg Muffin.

Priced at 2,600 KRW (approx. $1.90 USD), it promises a cafe-style breakfast right from the convenience store shelf. I managed to snag the very last one at my local CU! Does it live up to the legendary McMuffin? Let’s find out.

✨ First Impressions: The “Rare Item” Vibe

In some neighborhoods, these “Get Morning” muffins are quite popular and sell out fast during the morning rush. The packaging looks clean and professional, giving off a “premium brunch” vibe compared to standard C-store burgers.

🥪 Cooking & Texture: 40 Seconds to Perfection

The prep is as easy as it gets—just 40 seconds in the microwave, and you’re good to go. The muffin bread itself is surprisingly solid; it’s neither too chewy nor too dry. It hits that “goldilocks zone” of a standard English muffin texture.

🍳 The Taste Test: “Wait, is this McDonald’s?”

The biggest shock was the flavor profile.

  • The Egg Factor: The egg patty feels thick and substantial, almost like there are two layers packed in there. It gives the muffin a really hearty, protein-packed bite.
  • The Sync Rate: Seriously, one bite in and I thought, “Wait, did I just walk into a McDonald’s?” The harmony between the salty ham and the egg is almost identical to a classic McMuffin.
  • Cheese Power: Instead of a heavy, messy sauce, the flavor is led by the savory richness of the melted cheese. It’s clean, simple, and hits all the right breakfast notes.

💡 Final Verdict: Great Taste, Prickly Price

CU did a fantastic job replicating the McMuffin experience. However, at 2,600 KRW, it’s a bit on the pricey side for a convenience store item, especially when you consider you can sometimes get a promotional set at McDonald’s for a similar price.

I recommend this if:

  1. You’re a busy commuter who needs a McMuffin fix now.
  2. You missed the McDonald’s breakfast hours but still need that muffin craving satisfied.
  3. You love the classic combo of savory cheese and thick egg patties.

Score: 6 / 10 (Delicious flavor, but I wish the price was just a little lower for a C-store snack!)
